MJ, FF, and the good old days...
I grew up in the late 70s and 80s (only slightly older than Ohchan lol).
Charlie's Angels was on TV.
My cousin sisters whom I grew up with, three of us used to 'role-play' Charlie's Angels.
I was the smart brunette one lol.
It was silly. But we were mere pre-schoolers lol.
Black and white Ultraman was also on TV,
so was "Once upon a time.. space", one of my brother and my fave animations.
銀河鉄道999, 宇宙戦艦ヤマト, and old school gundam were on video tapes.
Kimisawa, a Japanese shopping mall back then, was still in Damansara Jaya.
A time when there's only one Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant (it wasn't KFC) and only one A&W in town.
Going to these two "restaurants" were like family weekend outing event.
Michael Jackson's "Ben" was on one of our family cassette tapes.
We also had "Off the Wall" album on cassette tape.
"Rock with you" was my fave fave song on that tape, I was a kiddo.
At the time, there were also "Saturday Night Fever", The Bee Gees, Stevie Wonder, The Carpenters and many more; including old school showa japanese songs and HK songs (old school Samuel Hui, and those TVB dorama songs composed by 顧家輝) among the many cassette tapes / vinyls my family owned.
I can't call myself a hardcore fan of MJ, but I grew up listening to his songs.
He was part of my happy childhood memories.
I was just getting into elementary school when "Thriller" was released.
I can recall the whole song and arrangement of "Billie Jean" in my brain.
That killer bass line. The beat. The intensity. The moon walk.
Of course, MJ went on to release "Bad" and created more hits.
But my faves songs of his still remained from the "Off the Wall" and "Thriller" albums.
Perhaps old school MJ reminds me of my own happy childhood growing up in KL.
A time and space that I long to return, but could never return, except when I close my eyes.
So thank you, Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett; thanks for the happy memories. R.I.P.
PS:
I was reading digg.com on one of the MJ thread..
I like this comment by EtherealSOC:
"The greatest performer who ever lived. It's strange, but I'd be
happier if he died at the age of 80, old and broken and giving society
enough time to view his work through the passage of time and eras. I'd
even be happier if he died at the height of his fame, in the late
1980's, and he would have been immortalized as a hero of epic
proportions. Now he dies a spectacle, loved by many but
destested by many as well, and this spectrum is so wide and yet so
polar that it doesn't reflect the kind of creative genius and visionary
philanthropist that he became. At his root he was a very sad and scared
man, living a twisted existence on the verge of reality, and even more
than grieve at his passing, I feel sorry that the world might not
understand what it just lost..."
PS again:my internet bandwidth is exceeded for this month, so won't be able to reply/catch up until July D:can't wait 'til July.. I can catch up with more old school MJ songs and videos and of course Arashi shows too.

And I did watch a lot of anime on videotapes.. MJ was kind of like a colour of our times, kind of all over pop culture you know. No one ever realises what we lose until we do huh.
Since we're reminiscing anyhow, I remember when library books used to be stamped, and you could tell the whole history of a book by its due date slip.. I used to really love that, seeing how old the book was and exactly how much it was loved. Then came the handheld beeep scanners with the futuristic red beams-- and now at my library there are self-serving borrowing scanners so you don't need to engage in human contact xD.
its sad with the passing of MJ. Was not a big fan of his but its truely sad to see him goes.... there are songs which I like during my teen years.
Download limits is a problem here ley? Esp. with so many variety programs, dramas and promotions Arashi has. I need to control myself with the download in order to make sure I got enough to download their stuff..... do you know if there are any fellow Melbourian going to Japan for their concerts? I really want to go but don't know how to buy tickets or have "mates" to go with..... :(
MJ career span: 60s-90s (although he's deteriorating in the 90s).. he was always around the top spots so whether you're an active fan or not you know about him.. and whether you're a fan or not you would still be awestruck by his performance (esp in his heydays). too big an impact.
yeah, I prefer good old days where library books used to be stamped too.. things were more manual but there's a lot more warmth (whether involving human or not xD).. or even the loud noise old washing machine made or the loud noise the kettle makes when it boils.. and esp the old dialing phone when you dial the number it went trrrrrr rolling back to its spot lol. guess I'm an old school nostalgic person.. I even miss the dial-up modem noise even if I don't miss the frustration when the phone got picked up and the slow speed lol.
I visited your vox but couldn't access your facebook album since it's locked (or needs to be login?).. I don't have a facebook account :(
yup, dl is always a problem.. and arashi does have so many shows! and they're so frequent it's hard to catch up too!! I also read news, sometimes surf youtube, and trying to keep up with the daily show and the colbert report too (as well as arashi, mostly arashi lol).. so near the end of month most often than not the dl limit is reached! too expensive to upgrade so will have to manage.
re if there are any fellow melburnians going to the concerts.. I'm not sure, I don't know any melburnians arashi fan (there was another one but she went back to her country after her studies finished...)..... I don't even know if I could make it to their concerts this year too although I'd love to. will keep you posted if I know any.
but if you wanna see i can upload them here too
i think no one has seen them yet...at least you are the only person who commented here... i don't know if i bore people since the main focus is on arashi...but then i feel an urge to post them...
yes - definately too much to increase the download limit - don't know why costs so much when the speed is not exactly too fast.
have u ever been to one of their concert? Must be a great experience !
